The Galaxy A57 vs Galaxy A37 decision in Nigeria comes down to about ₦119,300 at the entry level, with the A57 8GB/128GB listed at ₦623,500 and the A37 6GB/128GB at ₦504,200 at a Samsung-authorised store on 30 September 2026. Both phones share the same 6.7-inch 120Hz screen size, 50MP main camera with OIS, 5,000mAh battery, IP68 rating and six years of Android and security updates, so the question is what the extra money actually buys.

The short version is that the A57 is lighter, thinner, a bit faster and has a better ultra-wide camera, while the A37 gives you almost the same everyday experience for less. Which one makes sense depends on how much you’ll feel those differences, and the comparison below lays them out using Samsung’s own spec sheets for the Galaxy A57 5G and Galaxy A37 5G.

Where the Galaxy A57 earns its higher price

The difference you’ll notice first is in the hand. The A57 weighs 179g and is 6.9mm thick, while the A37 is 196g and 7.4mm, which is a real gap on phones this size. If you spend hours on WhatsApp, banking apps or reading with one hand, the A57 is simply easier to live with.

The A57’s processor also runs at up to 2.9GHz against the A37’s 2.75GHz, and it starts at 8GB of RAM rather than 6GB. That won’t transform how Instagram or Opay open, but it gives the A57 more headroom for heavier games and for the six Android upgrades Samsung promises, since each new version tends to ask a little more of the hardware. The A57 also gets a 12MP ultra-wide camera in place of the A37’s 8MP, which helps with group photos and landscapes, and Samsung lists 45W charging for it.

Why the Galaxy A37 is enough for most buyers

Look at what the two phones share and the A37 starts to look like the smarter buy. You get the same 50MP main camera with optical stabilisation, the same 12MP selfie camera, the same 5,000mAh battery, IP68 dust and water protection, Gorilla Glass Victus+ and the same six years of security updates. For photos taken with the main lens, which is where most of your pictures come from, Samsung’s specs don’t show a meaningful difference.

Be careful with the 6GB version, though. It’s the cheapest way into the A37, but if you plan to keep the phone for four years or more, the 8GB model is the safer choice, because RAM is what usually starts to pinch as apps grow. Samsung lists 8GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB versions of the A37 too, and paying a little more for one of those narrows the price gap to the A57 while keeping most of the savings.

₦504,200 is the Galaxy A37 6GB/128GB; the Galaxy A57 is ₦623,500 for 8GB/128GB and ₦707,350 for 8GB/256GB at Samsung-authorised Nigerian retailers. Prices change often, so confirm before you pay.

Check these before you pay for either Samsung

Buy from a Samsung-authorised store or Samsung’s own channels if you want the official warranty to count in Nigeria, and ask for the receipt with the IMEI printed on it. Dial *#06# and match the number on screen to the box. If you’re offered either phone as UK-used or “open box” at a much lower price, our guide to buying a UK-used Samsung Galaxy covers the checks that matter, and it’s worth confirming the real battery health on any phone that isn’t sealed.

Both phones are 5G, which is useful in parts of Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt but not a reason on its own to pick one over the other. If you can stretch your budget further, the Galaxy S26 FE is the next step up in Samsung’s range, though for most people the jump from the A37 to the A57 is already the bigger decision.

Galaxy A57 or Galaxy A37?

Buy it if

  • Galaxy A57: you want a lighter, thinner phone for long one-handed use
  • Galaxy A57: you shoot a lot of wide-angle photos or play heavier games
  • Galaxy A57: you plan to keep the phone for five or six years

Skip it if

  • Skip the A57 if your use is mostly WhatsApp, social media, banking and calls
  • Skip the A37 6GB if you plan to keep the phone beyond three or four years

The Galaxy A37 in its 8GB form gives most Nigerian buyers the same camera, battery, water resistance and update promise for less money. Pay for the A57 if the lighter body, faster chip and better ultra-wide matter to you every day.

If you’re still unsure, hold both in a store for a minute. The weight difference is the one thing a spec sheet can’t really make you feel, and if it doesn’t bother you, the A37 is the phone that leaves more money in your pocket without cutting anything you’ll miss.
