The Galaxy S26 Ultra and the iPhone 18 Pro Max are the two most expensive flagship phones you can buy in Nigeria right now, but only one of them is sold officially here. Samsung sells the Galaxy S26 Ultra in Nigeria through its authorised dealers with a Samsung Nigeria warranty, while every iPhone 18 Pro Max you’ll find in Lagos, Abuja or Port Harcourt has been imported since the phone went on sale abroad on 18 September.
That difference matters more than any benchmark, because it decides your warranty, where you can get the phone repaired and how your MTN, Airtel, Glo or T2 line goes on it. You don’t need to choose on specs alone. Start with the spec cards below, then check which phone fits the way you’ll actually use it in Nigeria.

The Galaxy S26 Ultra figures come from Samsung’s published listing as summarised by Ogabassey and retailer spec sheets. The iPhone 18 Pro Max battery figures come from Apple’s EU energy labels via MacRumors and a teardown reported by Tech-ish. Apple doesn’t publish RAM figures, so that row stays unconfirmed.
Know why naira prices for both phones vary so much
There’s no single official naira price for either phone. Galaxy S26 Ultra prices depend on the dealer, the storage size and whether the unit carries a Samsung Nigeria warranty or only a seller warranty. iPhone 18 Pro Max prices depend on where the seller imported it from, the exchange rate on the day and how scarce stock is, so early prices tend to drop once more units arrive.
When you compare quotes, compare the same storage size and the same version. A UK iPhone 18 Pro Max with a SIM tray and a US unit with no tray aren’t the same purchase, even when two sellers quote the same price. The same applies to Samsung, where a sealed unit with a Samsung Nigeria warranty is worth more than an open-box one covered only by the seller.
A Samsung Nigeria warranty is the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s biggest advantage
If you buy a Galaxy S26 Ultra from an authorised dealer, you get a Samsung Nigeria warranty and access to Samsung service centres for screens, batteries and board repairs. That’s a real difference on a phone at this price, because a cracked 6.9-inch display or a failed charging port on a flagship is an expensive repair to arrange privately. Ask the dealer to show you the warranty terms and confirm the IMEI on the box matches the one you get by dialling *#06#.
An iPhone 18 Pro Max in Nigeria will usually come from the US, the UK or Dubai. UK units keep a SIM tray, so you can put your SIM straight in. US and Dubai units have no tray, so your line has to go on as an eSIM, which means a visit to an MTN, Airtel, Glo or T2 service centre with the phone and your NIN. Don’t pay for an imported iPhone 18 Pro Max until Carrier Lock reads No SIM restrictions, because a locked unit won’t work on any Nigerian network. You’ll find it under Settings > General > About > Carrier Lock.
Battery and charging matter more when power supply is unreliable
On paper, the iPhone 18 Pro Max carries the bigger battery, at 5,391mAh on UK units against 5,000mAh on the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Battery capacity doesn’t translate directly between iOS and Android, though, so treat it as a rough guide rather than a winner. Samsung charges faster with a cable, at 60W and around 75 percent in 30 minutes, which helps when you only get short windows of NEPA light or generator time during the day.
If you rely on a power bank, check its output before you buy either phone. Both phones charge fastest over USB-C Power Delivery, and a cheap power bank that tops out at 10W or 18W will charge a 6.9-inch flagship slowly, whatever the phone supports.
Cameras, the S Pen and Privacy Display favour different users
The Galaxy S26 Ultra has more zoom options, with a 200MP main camera and separate 3x and 5x telephoto lenses. The iPhone 18 Pro Max uses three 48MP cameras and adds a variable-aperture main camera for the first time, which helps with low light and background blur. If you shoot a lot of zoomed photos at weddings, church programmes or football matches, Samsung’s setup gives you more reach. If you mostly record video for Instagram, TikTok or WhatsApp status, the iPhone’s video processing remains a strong reason to choose it.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra also has two features the iPhone doesn’t. The built-in S Pen is useful if you take notes, sign documents or edit photos on the phone. Samsung’s Privacy Display limits what people beside you can see on the screen, which is handy when you open your banking app in a BRT bus, a danfo or a crowded office.
Check 5G support on MTN and Airtel before you pay
MTN and Airtel run commercial 5G in parts of Lagos, Abuja and other major cities, mostly on band n78. The Galaxy S26 Ultra units sold by Samsung Nigeria dealers are built for Nigerian networks. Which one to buy in Nigeria
If you want a flagship with a local warranty and easy repairs, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is the safer choice in Nigeria. It has also been on sale since March, so dealer prices have had time to settle. Samsung usually announces its next S series early in the year, so if you can wait a few months, check current quotes against that timing.
Choose the iPhone 18 Pro Max if you already use a Mac, AirPods or an Apple Watch, or if video is what you care about most. In that case, look for a UK unit with a SIM tray, or an unlocked US or Dubai unit from a seller who’ll take it back if your eSIM won’t activate. The practical aim isn’t to buy the phone with the best spec sheet. It’s to buy the one you can get supported properly in Nigeria.
